Victory Arena – It promises to be a busy weekend for Singapore Vipers Football Club, with all 4 of the club’s teams in competitive match action on the same weekend for the first time in the club’s history.
Vipersfc.net has come up with a brief preview on each of the four matches taking place this week to curb your appetite ahead of the match action.
QUESTRA VIPERS v EUFORIA UNION FOOTBALL CLUB (EUFC)
Match Type: 2010 D2D Saturday League Cup
Date: Sat, 27 Feb
Time: 5pm
Venue: Serangoon Secondary
Preview: Questra Vipers are one of two guest teams in D2D’s inaugural Saturday Cup competition, and as fate would have it, the Vipers have been drawn against EUFC, 4-1 conquerors of the Cactusians in a pre-season friendly back in July 2008.
It promises to be a different match altogether this time, with the Vipers squad virtually a different side to the one that took to the field the last time both sides met. The match is also seen as a reunion of sorts for the Vipers, with Questra centreback Daniel Huang, who during his days as AJC team captain played in the same side as EUFC midfielder Loh Waikin and was also schoolmate to Kwan Jun Wah. The EUFC duo were also secondary school mates of Questra striker John Yeong.
VIPERS SOCIAL v OCEAN 15
Match Type: 2010 D2D Saturday League Cup
Date: Sat, 27 Feb
Time: 5pm
Venue: Broadrick Secondary
Preview: There is little known about the opposition this time around for Vipers Social, who venture into competitive football for the first time in their year-long history, and like Questra are guests for the D2D tournament.
Social gaffer Alex has already emphasized the need for his side to have greater exposure to matches of a competitive nature, and this Round 1 match against Division 1 side Ocean 15 will prove a stern test for Alex’s charges.
VNNTU v EASTERN VALE
Match Type: ESPZEN Sunday League Div 4, Season 12
Date: Sun, 28 Feb
Time: 11am
Venue: Marsiling Secondary
Preview: Eastern Vale return to league action following their month long hiatus from ESPZEN, which has seen them slip to fourth in the table. The youthful side, who has had to endure their worst start to a season ever, has gradually turned the tide picking up two consecutive wins in their latest two league matches.
Defender Yanze believes that EV still has a shot at the title, albeit a distant one, and has challenged his teammates to raise their game starting this Sunday.
“We are beginning to show some consistency, however we cannot be complacent and we must keep our run going.”
ASSUMPTION UNITED v VIPERS EVOLUTION
Match Type: ESPZEN Sunday League Div 10, Season 12
Date: Sun, 28 Feb
Time: 1pm
Venue: Orchid Park Secondary
Preview: Division 10 leaders Vipers Evolution look to preserve their 100 percent record this week against a rejuvenated Assumption United, who reinforced with the addition of 4 FC Protégé players have sounded the war cry and will go all out to stop the Cactusians and attempt to avenge their 6-3 early season defeat.
Having clocked up 9 consecutive league victories, Team Evo have equaled the club record set by Team Questra late last year, and will set a new record of consecutive wins if they manage to claim the 3 points that is required this Sunday.
