OPOD News Centre - Singapore Cricket Club claimed the 2009 edition of the Challenge Trophy aka Champions League yesterday when they defeated finalists Outsiders of the Fair Challenge League 2-0 in the final at Dempsey pitch.
The Cosmoleague outfit had faced the Outsiders before in an ill-tempered match during the group stages that had to be called off on 75 minutes due to tempers flaring on the pitch.
The final yesterday saw a much cleaner contest between the two sides however, and a much closer fought match which eventually saw SCC crowned the Champions of the Challenge Trophy.
Elsewhere British Club Football Club, flying the Equatorial Football League flag, claimed third place after defeating Nova Certeza of D2D Sports League 4-2 at Bukit Timah Field.
The Challenge Trophy aka Champions League is an annual event pitting the best teams from various leagues together, and this year’s edition saw a reduced eight teams competing in the competition which commenced on the 22nd June 2009 before culminating in yesterday’s final.
