After consecutive naggings from our OPOD Director to update the Talk of the Week section before it actually becomes the Talk of the Month, we have decided to throw out a new topic of discussion, which is: What do you look for when you make a purchase of jerseys for your social team?
A few key considerations that our OPOD team can think of is listed as follows:
Design: Features prominently on most teams’ lists. Although not always the most eye catching designs are chose, most teams would want a design which they can associate with and love, and one that brings out their team colours in a good way.
Comfort: A fundamentally key attribute I believe for most teams. No point wearing a good looking jersey but it feels awful when you wear it. A jersey should feel like its part of you during the game, not distracting you and affecting your game because of its awkward feel.
Price: Bearing in mind that most social teams are self-funded and do not have sponsors, every team has its own budget and the cost of jerseys will need to be reasonably priced before they are actually considered.
Sizing: While some may group this under the ‘comfort’ tag, we have decided to keep this as a separate category. Different people prefer different fits on them. Some like a tight fitting Italy-lookalike jersey, while others prefer a looser fit for greater comfort. Generally, as a rule of thumb, most players prefer a bit more room for comfort than being too tight to move.
Brand: Who wouldn’t want to sport a Nike or Adidas kit? It looks top notch, looks good and feels good. But unless you are well funded, the best brands are generally beyond the reach of the average social team.
