D2D Sunday 9am League Round-Up
OPOD News Center - Tempers frayed in the top of table clash in Division 2 which saw a total 3 red cards flashed in 1 single match. League leaders Torpedo Rovers won the match against Marine Devils 3-1 but the scoreline was hardly the talking point in a game over-shadowed by the sending offs. The Devils had a player sent off while Torpedo Rovers ended the game with only 9 men.
Incidentally, this is not the first time where both teams were involved in a heated match. Earlier this year, a league game between them (in Amateur Football League) was abandoned with 10 minutes left on the clock due to a scuffle which broke out after a Rovers player was sent off. Thankfully this time round, the match was actually completed.
Elsewhere, Refugees were held to a 0-0 draw by Team Poom but moved up to 2nd place after Marine Devils' loss. With the Rovers pulling away at the top of the table, a 4 way fight for the runners-up position has developed with just 2 points separating the 4 teams.
Division 1: X-S FC fails to close gap on leaders
On a weekend where league leaders Street 21 and Gloucester Rangers did not play, X-S FC failed to close in on them as they dropped 2 precious points against bottom of the table team Pink Dolphin Utd. A four week break for X-S FC may have been a tad too long and they'll be looking to shake off the lethargy and restart their engine to get their season going again.
79ers in turn closed in on them after a 2-1 victory over fellow promote VOFM. 79ers now have 8 league points, 1 behind X-S FC, but with a game in hand.
Nautical FC, on the back of a 3 weeks break from competitive football, squeezed a 3-2 victory over Euphoric Espada FC. Nautical would be pleased with the win as although EEFC are languishing in the bottom of the league, their last encounter was a heart wrenching 3-3 draw which had Nautical dropping 2 big points.
Division 3: Morning Glory FC goes ahead
Morning Glory FC stated their title ambitions on Sunday when they overcame fellow title challengers Galatico Empire 3-1. MGFC's work was made easier as GEFC finished the game with 10 men after the sending off of one of their players. MGFC are now top of the table and have games in hand; a luxury where few teams can enjoy.
Chinatown FC's title challenge was severely affected as they went down 1-0 to Bo Chap FC. Try as they might, Chinatown simply could not pry open the stubborn defence of Bo Chap and this latest loss broke their 7 match unbeaten run in the league.
Phoenix FC gained the first point of their season when they held in form Ace Galaxy to a 0-0 draw. Midland Wolves also broke the duck with an emphatic 6-3 victory over Hougang North and have now secured their first ever league win.
