OPOD News Centre – The kickoff of the EFL Cup 2009 – 2010 this weekend saw no less than seven cup ties take place around the island, with Scottish side St Andrew’s grabbing the headlines with a thumping 11-1 win over their feeder side Rampant Lions at Henderson Secondary on Saturday.
Aside from the Henderson massacre however, teams from the Qualifying Division impressed in general, with Hibernians United triumphing 3-0 over Premier Division side CBD Wanderers at PSA Club, while Qualifying Division leaders Questra Vipers defeated OCBC 3-1 at Chua Chu Kang Sec and Schwarz Star narrowly losing out to Kool N the Gang 2-3 at Bendemeer.
Elsewhere, Happyfeet were 2-0 victors over familiar opponents Team Orange to take them top of Group B on 4 points. Team Orange had started the stronger of the two but Happyfeet slowly edged back into the game and broke the deadlock through Joe Tan before the break. Andy Rizal added another in the 2nd half with a good shot from outside the box to round up the win.
The undoubted match of the round took place at Henderson however, with Premier Division champions South Buona Vista Saints being held to an enthralling 3-3 draw against academy side JSSL Arsenal. The Norwegian giants struck through leading frontman Hans, a second via Joel’s penalty and a third from Tom S., but JSSL Arsenal replied with three of their own to claim a share of the spoils in Group D.
