Out-muscled, out-fought, out-played, out-scored. Does anything more really need to be said?
The Hotspurs were second best on Saturday, in every single department, and can have no complaints about the final score.
They say that football can be a game of fine margins, and significant turning points, in which case, if chances had been taken, Hotspurs could have been 2-1 up inside 20 minutes instead of 3-0 down, but in truth, that would have been an unfair reflection on what as a masterful performance from the SCC and a distinctly poor one from us.
The SCC players were in our faces from the word go, denying us time on the ball, and space in any area of the field, and the energy that they brought to the game ensured that our chances (notwithstanding a Marko one on one following one of only two genuinely incisive moves of the game, and a missed penalty – let’s put it down to a fine save from Scott) were fewer than ‘few and far between’.
Congratulations to the SCC for being up for the Cup, and giving us a lesson in commitment, strong running, and teamwork. There was no disgrace in losing to a team that gave everything, were wholehearted throughout the 90 minutes, and took their chances with relish.
We were well beaten by a far better team on the day.
MOTM: SCC – has to be James for the hat-trick.
MOTM: Hotspurs – Aran, for a superb performance in a losing cause.
