FAA Featured Player(08): R Renesh
Reported by: footballopod.com

Full Name: R. Renesh
Date of Birth: 15th July 1998
Nationality: Singaporean
Position: Right midfielder/Striker

Favourite Club: Barcelona
Favourite Football Player: Lionel Messi

Being a tricky, intelligent and pacy right midfielder, Renesh established himself as a regular player for his school’s football team. Having impressed his coaches in school for his eye for goal and great vision, which saw him convert a total of 12 goals in the role of a striker in an inter-school tournament, Renesh is determined to take football as a professional career.

“After joining the Fandi Ahmad Academy, and having the chance to be trained under Coach Fandi, Coach Tohari and even the Italian coaches, I have this dream to be a professional footballer. I want to impress my coaches, who are also my role models, with my football skills and the right attitude and be one of the students selected to go to Italy with Fandi for trials.”

Fascinated by the beauty of the game by watching the likes of Lionel Messi play the highest level of football, Renesh was attracted to the intricacy of the game. Football was constantly on his mind and to learn the trade the right way, Renesh decided to join FAA.

“From watching football on television, I was always interested to play like Lionel Messi. He plays the game perfectly and I wanted to learn how to do that with the right guidance. I have learnt so much from the FAA Coaches – from close control of the ball to how to maintain my stamina to be able to play an entire match.”

Blistering pace and the willingness to run at players and take them on, Renesh is an ideal player for counter-attacking football. As an attacking footballer, Renesh enjoys the shooting practices and the 2-sided games most during training days.

“I like shooting practices because it feels really good to shoot the balls into the goal-post and it definitely helps to improve accuracy. During the 2-sided games, I am able to put to practice the lessons I’ve learnt in training that session. If we are not doing it right, the coaches will not hesitate to point it out and correct us. We can learn a lot from that.”

With the mentality of improving his football skills every day, Renesh hopes to be able to represent Singapore in the big stage in future.

“In the next five years, I am hoping to be good enough to play for Singapore. I can’t be the next Fandi Ahmad because he is simply the best but I will never stop working hard and I will put in every ounce of my effort to play like him one day.”
