Vipers Académie Sociale (AS) was on the wrong end of an entertaining seven-goal thriller, going down 3-4 against former EFL Premiership side Club M. Max Suderow broke his scoring duck for Vipers AS with two well-taken penalties that sandwiched Nur’s first league goal for the club but it did not prevent Vipers AS from crashing to their fourth league defeat of the season, with the team staring down the barrel of an increasingly difficult campaign.

Team manager Richard Lee commenced with a 4-4-2 formation, with Jie En back in goal, and a back four consisting Siwei, Nur, Parry and Mick. Asyraf and Wayne anchored the centre of midfield being flanked by Kevin Chow and the returning youngster Pek Jia Hao. Max partnered Eddie up front in a strikeforce combining big and small.

There was a minute’s silence before the game in a show of respect for Vipers First Team captain Stephen’s mother, who passed away recently.

The game was only into its tenth minute when Kevin gave the team a huge scare as he lay on the ground after a free kick, holding his head after challenging for the ball inside Club M penalty box.

He was replaced by Juraimi as he was helped out the field. Vipers AS came close to opening the score line when Juraimi was put through, but his shot was saved by the outstretched foot of the goalkeeper.

Club M then took the lead from a quick counter attack, their striker left with all the time to slot in from the far post after getting on to the end of a cross from the right wing. They doubled their lead when the referee awarded them a penalty after Mick held back their winger in the penalty box, with their player calmly stroking the penalty into the bottom left corner.

Vipers AS managed to reduce the deficit at the end of first half via a penalty of their own, when Kevin was hacked down at the edge of the box by their defender. Max stepped up for the penalty and put it beautifully into the top right corner, leaving the keeper no chance.

Viper AS came out of the second half putting pressure on Club M’s goal, but was unable to find a break through. Club M managed to regain their two goals lead from a through pass by their playmaker, which their striker put away neatly. Vipers AS brought the game back to 3-2 just a few minutes later, when Nur latched on to Kevin’s cross to lob the keeper for his first league goal for the club.

The game began to open up a lot more, and Club M appeared to have put the game to bed when they scored from a brilliant free kick in the last 10 minutes. But Vipers AS would not sit back and give up, turning up the intensity and were rewarded with another penalty, this time won by Mohamad, who was held back in the box.

Max this time put it into the bottom left corner for his second of the game. The manager then threw on all four strikers in a bid to get something from the game, but it was not to be as Club M held on to inflict a third defeat on Vipers AS.

Vipers AS man-of-the-match: Muhamad Sarif – worked his socks off and won a late penalty for the team.
