Safra Tampines - FAA Players and parents alike welcomed the brand new season of the FAA Junior League last weekend. The fixtures were played out as planned and everyone present were treated to a weekend of fantastic football.
Underdogs FAA United shocked the home team FAA Wonderers with an early goal in the first half credit to Luke Goh who played a vital role in midfield and was exceptional throughout the game. Wonderers were determined to get one back but United’s custodian, Jarrett was untroubled by the FAA Wonderers’ attacking advances as he made some fine saves to keep the clean sheet for his side as they went on to halftime. FAA Wonderers started the game with an all-out attack but it soon backfired when a counter attack from the visitors saw them scoring the second of the game. Immediately after, goals from Gareth, Alden and Syairul turned the table around and FAA United were now on the chasing end finding the crucial equalizer, which came soon enough through Pravin. But due to lapse in defense, FAA Wonderers went further to score two and eventually grab all three points.
In the U10 junior league fixture, FAA United scored four goals against FAA Wonderers as the latter slipped to their first defeat. The score line does not do justice to the team effort and determination FAA Wonderers displayed to a full house of supporters who came in huge groups to cheer on their favourites. The first goal came in the form of a well-taken corner by Zhafran, whose shot was deflected by the FAA Wonderers into his own goal. With no players on the bench, the visitors’ fitness and stamina were tested to the limit. But credit has to be given to the players as they never once faded into the background and allowed FAA United to take control. As much as they tried, FAA Wonderers could not get the much needed equalizer. An own goal from the Wonderers keeper and a goal by Danie lifted the team to three goals. Dev kurup nicknamed ‘Suarez’ sealed the game with arguably the best goal of the game after an individual effort.
FAA Wonderers trounced FAA Rovers, 8-1 as Wonderers secured first victory for away team. A deadly combination of Ilhan Fandi, Ian Danish and Imran Khairul in attack, FAA Rovers played a more cautious, defensive role in the first half of the game. However vigilant the home team were, they were unable to counter the brilliant footwork of Ilhan Fandi as he dribbled past physically taller and stronger defenders to score the opener. There was no stopping the visitors as the goals came pouring in. Soon enough they were four goals up with Wira Danial, Ian Danish and Imran Khairul scoring a goal each by halftime. Elijah gathered one back for his team but there was nothing much the Rovers players could do as Wira Danial scored twice to be the first player in the Junior League to get a hat trick.
