OPOD News Centre – In the only Premier Division match to be played on a weekend that saw 3 matches rained off, Sofeene FC kept up their impressive start to the new season, defeating Scots St. Andrew’s 6-2 at Bedok South. The free scoring Sofeene have now struck 22 goals in just 3 games, averaging 7 goals per match, a jaw dropping statistic indeed.
In the Qualifying Division, Questra Vipers re-opened a six point lead at the top of the table, winning 4-0 at Temasek secondary in the 3pm kick off. The club’s leading marksmen John Yeong struck twice in the first period, before further goals from Lee Tse Yang and Addie Tan sealed the match.
In the EFL Cup, Qualifying Division side Schwarz Star halted their recent poor run of games with a resounding 5-1 win over Premier Division Korean side Dong Shin, who fall victim to the Falcons and the season’s first giant killing in the EFL Cup to date. Goals from Yen (2) and Wesley helped the Super Falcons race into a 3-1 half time lead, before Andy and Azri completed the demolition of the Premier division’s bottom side.
Elsewhere, South Buona Vista Saints thumped Newton Heath 5-1 as they romped home and dealt the Newtons a cruel blow to their cup dreams this season. The Newtons must now defeat JSSL Arsenal to stand any chance of progressing to the round of 16.
Club De Futbol Bishan Pak won their match 3-2 against Club M to make it a poor weekend for Premier Division sides in the EFL Cup. The only other win for a Premier Division team came via Titans NFC, who fired 4 past Qualifying Division team MDIS without reply at Henderson Sec.
