Great performance, but no points for Vikings
Reported by: Thomas Sorensen

This week we were in the SCC Lions Den @ Dempsey, but the ancient Vikings have often had great success when conquering foreign territories.

We truly believe that we are able to match SCC this season and knew that if we convert our chances we might get some points against the defending Champions. Let it be said, this was a brilliant game.

As usual Vikings started the match at full throttle and our passionate approach gave us the upper hand in the opening minutes. Everyone could easily see that Vikings was no pushovers in this one, as we created some great chances and was only denied by a brilliant Scotty in the SCC goal.

Naoki got the first opportunity, as a good run handed him an open shooting chance inside the box. Unfortunately the SCC custodian was quick off his line and blocked the shot. Vikings continued to move forward and came close shortly after, as Tommie headed a cross towards Rasmus, who was inches from reaching the ball to make it 1-0. SCC was also looking dangerous going forward and Hutch had a open chance, but Eu Jin denied him heroically. Another great chance felt to Tommie after good combination with Rasmus, but another low shot was denied by the SCC keeper. We also hit the post after a corner kick. Casper flicked the ball on from the front post and Tommie rushed towards the back post, but only just managed to reach the ball with his toes and was denied by the post.

SCC also had their fair share of chances, but the scoreline remained at 0-0 in a 1st half played in impressive pace and high quality from both teams and it must have been a good match to watch for the spectators.

We knew SCC will come out strong in the second half, so we needed to be up for it from the first whistle. We were indeed ready and started with the same passion, but unfortuantely went a goal down early on. SCC was awarded a penalty, when Hutch was brought down inside the box. Correct penalty, well converted and an early blow for us.

We were still in the game and tried our best to challenge the defending champions, which we really did - they didn't have many chances, but their lead allowed them to sit back a little bit, which made it difficult for us. They eventually started to control the game and got their second goal 20 mins from time, which unfortunately killed us off.

Both teams agreed that this was a brilliant match and we were pleased with our performance despite the defeat. Looking forward to the re-match in 2010. The encounter was played in the right spirit and the refs did well to let the game flow.

Our new main sponsor Bobby´s was represented on the sidelines and hope they enjoyed their first taste of Cosmoleague action, they could hardly have chosen a better vikings match to watch. Thanks for your support.
