Fandi: "Being a coach is very exciting and fun."
Reported by: FAA Correspondent

Fandi Ahmad penned a three-year deal with the Malaysian Premier League contenders Johor FA early this year, taking on the important role as the team’s technical adviser, which sees him shuttling between Singapore and Malaysia on a weekly basis.

With his job scope revolving around rebuilding the first team and helping them secure promotion to the Malaysian Super League at the end of the next season, Fandi has been relentlessly placing his attention, time and effort in grooming the team for consistent success.

“I have commitments in Singapore and Malaysia almost everyday so, I have to travel back and forth. Mostly, I am in Johor helping out with the club but when I am in Singapore I have the H-Two-O Ultimate Dream Team to coach. Of course, my weekends! They are solely dedicated to my academy, Fandi Ahmad Academy.”

Fandi’s star quality appear to have rubbed off onto the team as, famously labelled as the ‘Fandi Effect’ on numerous occasions, the Johor FA secured a 2-1 victory against Sime Darby in their debut match under Fandi.

Currently placed fourth in the Malaysian Premier League table after threes wins, one loss and one draw in the last five games, Johor FA overtook the spot from PDRM after the 2-0 win against them early this week.

“It was an important win and essential three points for the team. We moved up a spot from fifth to fourth in the table. Everyone in the team is happy and the general mood around is positive. The players are excited to play out the remaining games to the end of the season and we have to wait and see where we will be in the table at the end of the season.”

Apart from his heavy commitment with the Johor FA, Fandi coaches the H-Two-O Ultimate Dream Team on Tuesdays and Thursdays at ITE College Central (MacPherson) and as the brand ambassador for the isotonic drink, H-Two-O, he gives talks on Wednesdays.

“People always ask me if I am tired having to shuttle between Singapore and Malaysia weekly plus on top of that I have the H-Two-O Ultimate Dream Team to coach. But my reply to them is the same. I enjoy doing this a lot and football has always been my passion. As a footballer it was great being part of a team but now I am taking on the role of the coach. Being a coach is very exciting and fun.”

“With the H-Two-O Ultimate Dream Team, I have the opportunity to coach the youths and help discover more football talent in Singapore.”
