SCC was delighted to play on the Padang, I think their first official game for a long time on this field. Opposition was the Germans that is always up for a challenging encounter and can be dangerous on the day. SCC played a brilliant first half, with a nice and sharp passing game at time, the quality of the field really helps SCC from that perspective. Although SCC was attacking all the time and creating many chances they were all missed or unlucky as Kilbee was with a great shot from the edge of the box only to be denied by the cross bar. The opener finally came after Alonso got the ball back pressuring the Germans defence, his low cross to Hutcheon could only be denied by the German defender in his own net, SCC 1-nil. A few minutes later, Kilbee would find some space on the left before coming back to Alonso for a cross in the box and Hutcheon this time will receive the ball a score, SCC 2-nil. SCC was keeping the pressure up and once more Alonso will get the ball back in the Germans defender feet, take on a couple before crossing to Hutcheon in the 6 yard box for a clear and easy finish, SCC 3-nil. It could have been more but the score will remain and SCC had by half time a comfortable lead. Coach Monaghan insisted on keep playing good and simple football in second half and keep a clean sheet. Unfortunately it was always heard and SCC gave the ball away too easily at time, not playing simple and simply not fighting enough. This gave some space for the Germans to get a bit more on the ball. Having said that SCC still managed to score more goals as Kilbee got his scoring boots on and will bag in 4 in the second half and Tan adding his name to the scoreboard. The Germans will score a very nice consolation goal with a precise shot from the edge of the box. All in all good day at the office for SCC despite not keeping a clean sheet, all subs involved did well and all enjoyed playing on such a good field. The defence was fairly solid with Logie, Day and Bowden, the midfield was classy and in control with Monaghan, Zatto and young Jamie Saarloos, the wings did what they had to do and the strikers scored. Credit to the Germans team that never gave up. SCC’s MoM goes to Kilbee that scored 4 goals and was clinical all day. German’s MoM goes to their Capitano, always showing the example and calming down his players which was not an easy task on the day… well done.
