Hyrulnizam Juma’at- Goalkeeper
Score: 8
Did well throughout the first 45mins saving a free kick and a quick double save in the dying minutes of the first half keeping Singapore’s hopes of a fight back alive. Can’t be blamed for conceding but was certainly our man of the match.
Delwinder Singh- Defender
Score: 6.5
Tried his best but Del looked out of place at times at right back. Has been a revelation at defensive midfield for club, why not give him a try at international level?
Shaiful Esah- Defender
Score: 7.5
Shaiful’s passing in the game was still a bit off but was certainly a joy to watch bombing forward like a certain Patrice Evra.
Baihakki Khaizan- Defender
Score: 6
Dominated the defence with his height but lack the pace to deal with what Hong Kong threw at him at times.
Daniel Bennett- Defender
Score: 5.5
His height also kept the high balls in check but was exposed at times by Hong Kong’s pace. Tried to play the long ball but to no avail.
Isa Halim- Midfielder
Score: 6
His partnership with Mustafic didn’t go too well as the Hong Kong team was too pacy for the pair to handle.
Mustafic Fahrudin- Midfielder
Score: 5.5
A joy to watch going into the tackle but against a team that closes down fast and furious and plays in a very compact formation, he was prevented from playing his usual game.
Shahdan Sulaiman
Score: 7
Was also closed down really fast by Hong Kong but still managed to create a couple of chances including a thunder bolt that pulled out a really good save from the Hong Kong keeper.
Ahmed Fahmie- Midfielder
Score: 6
Had a decent game but was overshadowed by Shaiful Esah’s forward forays which somehow seem to be more effective.
Safirul Sulaiman- Midfielder
Score: 6.5
Was looking forward to his dribbling but Ernie Merrick’s charges followed the gaffer’s instructions to the letter. Was not given much space but had a really decent one on one chance which the keeper managed to clear. Expect the boy to flourish if given the right guidance and enough time on the pitch.
Agu Casmir- Striker
Score: 7
The lone man upfront was subjected to quite a bit of physical play from the opposition but managed to dish out some of his own at times. Was a threat even though he was playing by himself but could have been more threatening if given the right form of support.
Substitutes
Izwan Mahbud- Goalkeeper
Score: 7
Had a quiet game and a clean sheet in the second half but was alert enough to put in a tackle that denied Hong Kong from extending the lead after a through ball from Godfrey Karikari.
Poh Yi Feng- Defender
Score: 6.5
Came on in the dying minutes of the game but was decent and showed his hunger to impress.
Firdaus Kasman- Midfielder
Score: 7
Came onto the pitch bringing with him some tricks that brought the otherwise scrappy second half to life.
Raihan Rahman
Score: 6.5
Came on for Isa Halim in the second half and didn’t disappoint during his time on the pitch
Irwan Shah
Score: 6
Replaced Shaiful Esah and was guilty of playing some long passes from defence when you thought he would have followed Shaiful in making the forward runs.
Qiu Li
Score: 7.5
Call him chubby for all he cares but he is still a major threat for the team when he gets the ball. Went past a couple of defenders just for fun showing why he is still an asset for club and country but lacked the support to put the Lions on level terms. One tends to wonder how great he will be if he loses a few more kilos.
