SINGAPORE, 10 AUGUST 2012: The pre-match press conference for the 2012 StarHub League Cup Final took place this afternoon at Jalan Besar Stadium with Geylang United head coach V. Kanan and Captain Syed Fadhil, along with Brunei DPMM’s head coach Vjeran Simunic and Captain Rosmin Kamis in attendance.
With a stage set for a breathtaking cup final on Saturday, 11th August, both teams are looking to make history in the match. For Geylang United, it’s been three years since they have won any silverware and with them rooted at the bottom in the S.League, the League Cup, which they have not won before, represents the only chance for them to win a trophy this year.
For Brunei DPMM FC, they will look to reclaim the trophy they won in 2009, and mark a fairy tale return to Singapore football by becoming the first team to win the League Cup on two different occasions.
Speaking at the press conference, DPMM head coach Simunic said, “I think that both teams deserved to be in the final. For us, we outplayed teams like Home United and SAFFC, and I think the final will be a very tough and hard game. I hope the fans will enjoy the game.”
Adding on to what his Coach said, Captain Rosmin said, “I think like what Coach said, we deserve to be in the final and as we know first-hand, Geylang United is a very good team with very good and experienced players, and they too deserve to be in the final.”
Geylang United’s head coach, V. Kanan said, “Tomorrow is going to be a very tough game for us, Brunei DPMM is a very good team. They play good football and we have lost to them twice already this season, once in Brunei and once at home, at Bedok Stadium. They have good foreigners like Tales Dos Santos, Ivan Jerkovic, Patrick Da Silva, and of course Basiru Osman. Their local players are also good players. However we have played four good games in the league cup, the boys have worked very well, and I hope they will carry their form into the final.”
Captain, Syed Fadhil, also added, “I think both teams deserve to be in the final, especially Geylang United. We are quite a young team but our boys have showed character and maturity beyond their years and are willing to learn and I think we really deserve to be in the final.”
The StarHub League Cup Final will see performances by the S.League SuperBabes, half-time entertainment which will feature penalty-kicks against Courts Young Lions goalkeeper, Syazwan Buhari, for ten lucky StarHub customers and a lucky draw which will include prizes such as an Ipad and a 32-inch TV.
Mediacorp Actor Suhaimi Yusof, will also be the guest emcee for the event. StarHub Mobile subscribers will be entitled to free entries, simply by just flashing the StarHub logo on their phones at the entrance.
As part of National Day celebration, fans who are ticket holders of the National Day Parade (including Previews) are also entitled to free entry by presenting their ticket stubs at the entrance.
