Safra Tampines - FAA Under-8 Junior League game week 4 kicked off to a flying start with a top of the table clash which saw FAA Wonderers sneaking the victory over FAA Rovers 4-3. FAA Rovers started with almost the same line-up albeit from one change with Roshan Feroz coming in the absence of Nur Iffah, playing nervously in the opening exchange repelling all Wonderers’ pressure. FAA Rovers took the lead inside ten minutes, pretty much against the run of play when a long throw from Dayle Sng was adjudged to have been flicked in with the slightest of touch by Vamshi Krishna, much to the disapproval of the home side who felt the ball was not touched on the way in.

The home side, led by quality players like Alden Chee, Amir Syafiz and Zane Loo, was able to brush aside their early setback to draw level four minutes later when a quick break saw Alden equalize before breaking Rovers’ defense open to go one up in the 18th minute when Mustaqim Mulyadi was unfortunate when a cross shot from Amir struck his chest to divert the ball into his own net. A well-struck shot from Amir towards the end of first half summed up the visitors’ poor display to go two goals down. Another tactical change from the FAA Rovers team saw them coming out all guns blazing, attempting to get back into the game, was unfortunate to see their effort saved time and again by a brilliant first-timer Fawaris, who played a blinder in between the sticks thwarted the hopes of the visiting team players. Alden put the game beyond reach for the visitors when a free kick from distance caught the Rovers custodian napping, haplessly parried the ball into his own goal.

FAA Rovers can keep their heads up at the end of the whistle when Rovers’ talismanic striker, Syarf Haqqani’s first goal sparked what was an intense finish as Wonderers desperately held on to their lead when two précised counter attack saw Syarf’s brace, which came so close to snatch a point off their host. But the score remained that way for the home team who goes top with 7 points after their latest exploits.
