OPOD’s NFL Preview: D2D FC to land three points in second meeting
Reported by: footballopod.com

To satisfy the curiosities of NFL fans and to give possibly a mini sneak preview on what you lads  could expect in the weekend games, OPOD is sharing with you our previews and predictions on two interesting fixtures from each division which are slated to take place on this weekend in the NFL scene.

Division 3

D2D FC to land three points against Mountbatten in second meeting

Date: 10 June 2012
Time: 7.00pm
Venue: Meridien JC
Opponent: Mountbatten FC

OPOD’s Preview: Just like Aston Villa under former gaffer Alex Mcleish who became the ‘draw’ specialist in the BPL last season, D2D FC has accumulated three draws in a winless run since early May. With Team Manager Daniel favoring an attractive and offensive style of football, it is inevitable that D2D’s backline is leaking goals in this process. However, in order for his lads to excel in his football philosophy, D2D has to outscore their opponents. It is no longer the sole responsibility of the forwards to put the ball in the back of the net. Midfielders and even defenders have to get onto the attacking third and chip in the goals.

OPOD’s Prediction: Despite being held to a 2-2 Mountbatten FC recently, D2D FC has what it takes to outscore their opponents and seal an important win. We are rooting for a 3-1 scoreline to D2D FC.

Summerville FC to close in on Gambas with a win in the top of the table clash

Date: 10 June 2012
Time: 5.00pm
Venue: Bukit Gombak Stadium
Opponent: Gambas Avenue SC

OPOD’s Preview: With both sides enduring a poor yet forgettable league campaign last season when Summerville FC finished at the bottom of Division 2 whilst Gambas Avenue SC barely evaded relegation in Division 3, it is surprising to note that the duo are staking a claim in the title battle this season. Close to the end of the first half of the season, NFL fans and footballers are tipping Gambas Avenue to clinch the title as their 100 percent winning run since the beginning of the campaign saw them ease past challengers Summerville 5-0 just last week.

Nevertheless, football is a surreal game as we witnessed teams like Liverpool, Newcastle United, Arsenal and Manchester United giving away the title to the challengers despite performing well and taking the lead in the history of the BPL. In the case of the NFL Division 3 title race, you can’t say that it is a foregone conclusion for Gambas Avenue.

OPOD’s Prediction: Summerville FC to beef up their defense and shatters Gambas’s confidence with 1-0 win.

Division 1

Tiong Bahru searching for fifth win to heap pressure on SRC in title race

Date: 9 June 2012
Time: 7.00pm
Venue: St Wilfred Field
Opponent: SAFSA

OPOD’s Preview: After acknowledging that SRC slipped to a goalless stalemate to Keppel Monaco last weekend, underdogs Tiong Bahru has gained the psychological edge in the search for the ultimate gold. Besides performing well and getting the right results every week, Tiong Bahru is putting pressure on SRC to go that extra mile and not just obtain victories with a goal or two. Judging at the goal difference record between both sides, Tiong Bahru FC is catching up with the reigning champions. Should Tiong Bahru achieve a massive win over SAFSA this weekend, they may top the table based on their superior goal difference record should both teams are level on points gradually.

OPOD’s Prediction: Tiong Bahru to bag a massive win over SAFSA and make it difficult for SRC to retain their title this season.

SCC NFL looking for the double over Borussia Zamrud

Date: 10 June 2012
Time: 5.00pm
Venue: Dempsey Field
Opponent: Borussia Zamrud FC

OPOD’s Preview: For SCC NFL fans, it was certainly a bitter blow to take when former S-League player Fadzuhasny Juraimi picked up an unfortunate injury and this led to SCC NFL to the ‘shortage of goals’, eventually conceding the title to SRC last season. Back in the forefront for the Division 1 giants with 6 league goals so far, SCC NFL is looking to redeem their precious possession from SRC. To add on that, in-form striker Andrew Hutcheon may return to the SCC NFL starting line-up after leading Cosmo outfit SCC Firsts to a successful double recently.

OPOD’s Prediction: SCC NFL to clinch a second consecutive win over Borussia Zamrud and we could expect an interesting three horse title battle in time to come.

Division 2

Prison SRC to move into safety zone with home win

Date: 09 June 2012
Time: 5.00pm
Venue: Bedok RTC
Opponent: Jollilads Arsenal

OPOD’s Preview: Although you have an exuberant Jollilads Arsenal who brings pace and creativity, Prison SRC has that experience to get the job done in the relegation battle. Succumbing to relegation just last season, Prison SRC is more determined to avoid the same fate this time round.

OPOD’s Prediction: Handing Jollilads Arsenal a 2-0 defeat last week, Prison SRC may face a stiffer test this time but still edge past Jollilads Arsenal 2-1

Katong FC to bounce back into winning ways

Date: 09 June 2012
Time: 5.00pm
Venue: St Wilfred Field
Opponent: Tessensohn Khalsa Rovers

OPOD’s Preview: Based on their previous showings in Division 2, Katong FC has always done enough to keep themselves away from the drop zone. Therefore, they have that ability to pick up a couple of wins and hopefully make their way into the top half of the table.

OPOD’s Prediction: Katong FC to pick up a 2-0 win against Tessensohn Khalsa Rovers.
